K.A.
Katherine Adamenko is a strength and movement specialist, fitness expert, actress, and writer based in New York City. She balances the science of movement with the art of creativity to inspire clients, students, and audiences alike to live a more joyful and healthier life. From ballet, musical theatre, and performance art, to bodybuilding, yoga and holistic fitness, Katherine brings this unique approach into every session, every, and every performance.
She currently teaches group exercise classes in northern NJ and serves as the fitness expert for Divabetic. She spent the past year as the Group Exercise Coordinator for two NYSC locations in NJ, teaching exclusively for the company. Prior to this, Katherine spent five years as a personal trainer and Master Instructor for Equinox Fitness. She is known to her clientele simply as IRONKAT.
As a professional actress, singer, and dancer, Katherine has appeared in numerous regional and Off-Off Broadway theatrical and dance productions at the historic Barn Theater in Michigan to Obie award-winning Theatre for the New City in New York. As an arts educator, Katherine has proudly worked with the AIDS Theater Project, the National Dance Institute, and numerous inner-city schools with special needs kids.
Influenced by a ballsy set of female American performance artists, a bunch of French feminist performance theorists, and exposed to the best of British and world theater during her studies abroad, Katherine developed and has been presenting her unique brand of satirical, smart, and sexy "cabaret performance art" for over a decade and is currently finishing her new solo show “Escaping Biology.”.
She is also renowned for her fiery and passionate physical theatre, site specific installations, performance poetry, and Butoh dances. She performs throughout NYC, the West Coast, and in Europe in theatres, galleries, conferences, festivals, museums, and locations including but not limited to her refrigerator, closet, and bathtub.
As a writer and curator, Katherine is deeply honored to have served as the Director of Exhibitions for the New York City Police Museum shortly after 9/11, curating, writing, and mounting numerous exhibitions honoring the exceptional men and women of the NYPD.
Katherine holds a BA in Modern Dance and Joint Political Science/History from Rutgers University and an MA in Contemporary Theatre Practice from the University of Essex in England.
